Am I supposed to be doing research? If so, how do I get involved in research?
UCI is a research university with infinite research opportunities for transfer students in all disciplines. Having this experience will not only enhance your undergraduate education, it will definitely help you to remain competitive in the job market or for graduate programs. UCI holds an annual Undergraduate Research Symposium in May. You can get familiar with what types of research experiences UCI undergraduate students are involved in by attending the Symposium (it is also great fun and highly educational!).
For information on how to get involved in research and how to get funding, visit the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program web site. The Transfer Services Counselor is a former UROP research grant recipient and was a UROP Student Research Advisor prior to her position at the TSCP. Shelly can also assist you in finding appropriate on and off-campus research opportunities.
The School of Social Ecology has a website explaining how to go about desigining an independent study research project (198/199 courses). Even if you are not a student in Social Ecology, the suggestions given on this website will be useful in understanding what you should be thinking about and how to implement your ideas.
